There are many articles, blogs, books about Self – Branding. Some people would think that a Brand is an actual product or a particular celebrity selling lets say, Ivory soap. This may be true , but if you observe everyone around you or even yourself. You will notice that each one of us is a Brand. We have attributes of a differnet kind compared to a product.
Each one of us project a different image. This projection seperates us from each other. The way we dress, or the way we speak, our body gestures. We are all selling, or advertising subconsciously in our daily lives. We are our own Logo. This is how we are perceived. The brand defines who you are.
To sell ourselves to a potential employer may be difficult. To self-brand one has to be unique, desirable and memorable. There are attributes that are associated with a Brand. Intangible, Tangible attributes, together can help build a market for oneself.
Perhaps to an employer, meeting their minimum requirements is just not enough. An individual has to be unique and stand out from all the other candidates. What did you do differently than the others? An aswer to this could be something that you have spcialized in.
“Self-branding simply means clearly showing the decision-makers in your career(s) what you do, and that you do it well. Since many of us have multiple careers, this is a strong possibility we each have multiple personal brands, with varying degrees of overlap”. – J.D. Moyer. As he states.
I agree with some of his blog. Isn’t branding also about perception, not what you do or do well? I guess it is. What you do that is unique, and just like any product, the way the product (you) is packaged. An individual has to package themselves as well. Individuals compete for jobs So you have to want people to believe in you and see how confident you are.
